Resumo: | This paper analyzes the importance of the North-South Railway (FNS) for the economic development of the municipalities of Açailândia (MA) and Porto Nacional (TO). Thus, it addresses the relevance of the railway modal for the country, the privatization of railway sections in operation, the projection of cargo transportation for the coming years and its territorial impacts. Furthermore, it is demonstrated how the investments of the concessionaires play a significant role in this process, since the construction of the FNS has been, for several periods, stagnated due to the lack of public management of resources. It also demonstrates how public / private management is an alternative for the consolidation of Brazilian railways, contributing to interconnect and intensify the economic relationship between Brazilian cities and regions with the world market. Through bibliographic and documentary research he finds that there were improvements in the economy of the municipalities of Açailândia (MA) and Porto Nacional (TO), places where the main FNS railway yards are in operation. Por lo tanto, aborda la relevancia del modo ferroviario para el país, la privatización de los tramos ferroviarios en operación, la proyección del transporte de carga para los próximos años y sus impactos territoriales. Además, se demuestra cómo las inversiones de los concesionarios juegan un papel importante en este proceso, ya que la construcción del FNS se ha estancado, durante varios períodos, debido a la falta de gestión pública de los recursos. También demuestra cómo la gestión pública / privada es una alternativa para la consolidación de los ferrocarriles brasileños, contribuyendo a interconectar e intensificar la relación económica entre las ciudades y regiones brasileñas con el mercado mundial. A través de la investigación bibliográfica y documental, descubre que hubo mejoras en la economía de los municipios de Açailândia (MA) y Porto Nacional (TO), lugares donde están operando los principales patios ferroviarios del FNS. Desarrollo Regional.Este artigo analisa a importância da Ferrovia Norte-Sul (FNS) para o desenvolvimento econômico dos municípios de Açailândia (MA) e Porto Nacional (TO). Assim, aborda a relevância do modal ferroviário para o país, a privatização de trechos ferroviários em funcionamento, a projeção do transporte de cargas para os próximos anos e seus impactos territoriais. Ademais, é demonstrado como os investimentos das concessionárias cumprem papel significativo nesse processo, uma vez que a construção da FNS esteve, por diversos períodos, estagnada por falta de gestão pública dos recursos. Demonstra, ainda, como a gestão pública/privada se coloca como uma alternativa para a consolidação das ferrovias brasileiras, contribuindo para interligar e intensificar a relação econômica entre municípios e regiões brasileiras com o mercado mundial. Por meio de pesquisas bibliográficas e documentais constata que houve melhorias na economia dos municípios de Açailândia (MA) e Porto Nacional (TO), locais em que se encontram os principais pátios ferroviários da FNS em funcionamento.
