PRONAF in the state of Paraná: which development logics have been strengthened?

The work aims to analyze the productive activities and rural enterprises financed by PRONAF in the State of Paraná, in order to understand the logic of rural and regional development that the program has stimulated. To fulfill this objective, the methodology used was to analyze the secondary data of the Rural Credit Data Matrix (MDCR), made available by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), from 2013 to 2018. The results and conclusions of the study indicate for the great expressiveness of Paraná in the use of resources, with emphasis on the costing modality, which accounts for 57% of the total volume of the program, which are mostly applied in grain crops and agricultural commodities. Investment resources are mainly focused on the acquisition of agricultural machinery and implements, for use in these same modernized crops of family agriculture. In this sense, PRONAF has strengthened rural development stands that aim to specialize family agriculture in agricultural production, leaving aside important principles such as rural diversification, food production, environmental sustainability and support to non-agricultural rural activities.
