Resumo: ABSTRACT: This article is a study of the preferred activity of children in early childhood, based on the ideas of Vygotsky, Alexander, Luria, Leontieve and Elkonin (authors affiliated with Historical-Cultural Psychology). Its general objective is to know the favorite games and games of children from 6 to 11 years old, seeking to understand the relationship of these activities with the learning and development process of children. The methodology that supported this investigation has as epistemological focus the descriptive research, with empirical data, scientific methods of collection and analysis of data presented with theoretical basis. As for the approach, this is a mixed research with qualitative and quantitative aspects. The data collection techniques used were bibliographic analysis and interview. The field research was conducted at Antonio Bispo de Oliveira Municipal School, located in the Massapê District, Feira Grande, Alagoas, Brazil. The subjects involved in the research were 36 children of both sexes, aged from 6 to 11 years old, who studied from 1st to 5th grade. The results indicate that playing is the favorite activity of children in any environment they are in and that games with explicit rules are the favorite games of children in this age group. Rule games.RESUMO: Este artigo consiste em um estudo sobre a atividade preferida das crianças na terceira infância, baseado nas ideias de Vygotsky, Alexander, Luria, Leontieve e Elkonin (autores filiados à Psicologia Histórico-cultural). Apresenta como objetivo geral conhecer os jogos e brincadeiras preferidas das crianças de 6 a 11 anos, buscando compreender a relação dessas atividades com o processo de aprendizagem e desenvolvimento das crianças. A metodologia que deu suporte a esta investigação tem como enfoque epistemológico a pesquisa descritiva, com dados empíricos, métodos científicos de coleta e análise de dados, apresentados com embasamento teórico. Quanto à abordagem, esta é uma pesquisa mista, com aspectos qualitativos e quantitativos. As técnicas de coleta de dados utilizadas foram a análise bibliográfica e a entrevista. A pesquisa de campo foi realizada na Escola Municipal Antonio Bispo de Oliveira, localizada no Distrito Massapê, Feira Grande - Alagoas, Brasil. Os sujeitos envolvidos nesse estudo foram 36 crianças de ambos os sexos, com idade de 6 a 11 anos, que estudavam do 1º ao 5º ano. Os resultados apontam que brincar é atividade preferida das crianças em qualquer ambiente que elas estejam e que os jogos com regras explícitas são as brincadeiras preferidas das crianças nessa faixa etária.
