THE CONSTITUTION OF THE NOTION OF WORDDURING ACQUISITION OF WRITING

Resumo: In the present paper vocabulary segmentation data, produced by a child in the 2nd year of elementary school, are described and analyzed for the purpose of assisting a discussion concerning relevant aspects as for the construal of the meaning of what a word is during the initial stage of writing development. It is aimed at finding out what are the child’s perceptions concerning what a word is both in spoken and in written language along the process of writing acquisition. The data were collected through clinical interviews intended to inquire about the child’s understanding of the concept of word (CARRAHER, 1989). The the interpretation of the answers was based upon the theory of prosodic constituents (NESPOR; VOGEL, 1986). The results showed that the criteria are fluctuating, as there are times when the child interprets the word according to the number of letters and in others, as syllables, showing that the trajectory towards the word has a multiplicity of meanings

El objetivo es verificar cuáles son las percepciones de los niños en el proceso de adquisición de la escritura sobre lo que es una palabra, tanto en el habla como en la escritura. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de entrevistas que tuvieron como objetivo indagar sobre lo que el niño entendía por palabra (CARRAHER, 1989). La interpretación de las respuestas se apoyó en la teoría de los constituyentes prosódicos (NESPOR; VOGEL, 1986).Los resultados mostraron que los criterios son fluctuantes, pues hay momentos en que el niño interpreta la palabra según el número de letras y en otros, como sílabas, mostrando que la trayectoria hacia la palabra tiene una multiplicidad de significadosEste artigo analisa as percepções infantis no processo de aquisição da escrita a respeito do que seja uma palavra. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas clínicas que visaram indagar sobre o que as crianças entendiam ser uma palavra e a interpretação das respostas teve o suporte da teoria dos constituintes prosódicos. Os resultados mostraram que os critérios são oscilantes, pois há momentos em que a criança interpreta a palavra de acordo com o número de letras e em outros, como sílabas, evidenciando que a trajetória em direção à palavra apresenta multiplicidade de acepções.
