The body techniques in Marcel Mauss and the sports field

Resumo: Why should we revisit the text "body techniques", by the French ethnologist Marcel Mauss, after almost eighty years after being published in the Journal of Psychology (1936)? We believe that despite the temporal distance, the fundaments exposed in the text remain of current interest, especially when studying sport. This article will review the Mauss's theory in this area and emphasize the importance of the research work when contemplating this issue. By speaking of techniques, we will also approach the questions related to the body and its social uses, and the theory of “habitus” in Bourdieu.

Creemos que a pesar de la distancia temporal, los fundamentos expuestos en el continúan siendo actuales, sobre todo en el estudio del deporte. En este artículo revisaremos la teoría de Mauss en este campo, enfatizando la importancia de que los trabajos de investigación la tengan en consideración. Al hablar de técnicas, también abordaremos las cuestiones relacionadas con el cuerpo y con los usos sociales, así como con la teoría del “habitus” en Bourdieu.Porquê revisitar o texto sobre técnicas do corpo, do etnólogo francês Marcel Mauss, quase oitenta anos depois de ter sido publicado, no Journal de Psychologie (1936)? Cremos que apesar da distância temporal, os fundamentos nele expostos continuam de atualidade, sobretudo quando se estuda o desporto. Neste ensaio, iremos rever a teoria de Mauss neste campo e salientar a importância dos trabalhos de investigação contemplarem esta questão.
