Resumo: This article presents the exploratory approaches of a research on religion and political mediation developed in the outskirts of Campos dos Goytacazes, a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Qualitative in nature, and from an ethnographic perspective, the study aims to analyze how a church from the outskirts of a city can support itself and maintain the engagement of its members in its activities and how the mediation of a leadership of the “Assembly of God Nascer de Novo Ministry” in the electoral political process develops, in support of a candidacy for councilman.

De carácter cualitativo, y a partir de una perspectiva etnográfica, el estudio pretende analizar cómo una iglesia periférica consigue sostenerse y mantener el compromiso de sus miembros en sus actividades y cómo se desarrolla la mediación de un liderazgo de la “Assembleia de Deus Ministério Nascer de Novo” en el proceso político electoral, en apoyo a una candidatura para el concejo municipal.O presente artigo apresenta as abordagens exploratórias de uma pesquisa sobre religião e mediações políticas presentes em uma periferia de Campos dos Goytacazes, cidade do interior do estado do Rio de Janeiro. De abordagem qualitativa, e a partir de uma perspectiva etnográfica, o estudo tem por objetivo analisar a forma como uma igreja de periferia consegue sustentar-se e manter o engajamento de seus membros em suas atividades.
