The Theory of Subconstructs and the Rational Number as Operator: from algebraic to cognitive structures

Resumo: | We present a literature review on the role of the operator subconstruct in the learning of rational numbers. We chose to focus on this subconstruct because it is related to the operation of multiplication, which places it in a position of importance when one considers the development of so-called multiplicative reasoning. We reviewed the literature seeking to make explicit perspectives in which the role of this interpretation of rational number is considered important in the school curriculum, and to describe empirical research findings and theoretical reflections related to work with this subconstruct in school. We finish by presenting some issues that we believe deserve additional attention. The objective is to present a synthesis of the literature on this specific topic, offering support that may contribute to teachers’ construction of a professional view regarding rational numbers. Operator.Neste trabalho focalizamos o papel do subconstruto operador na aprendizagem escolar dos números racionais, revisando a literatura especializada sobre o tema. A escolha desse subconstruto deve-se ao fato de que é vinculado à operação de multiplicação, o que o coloca em posição de destaque quando se pensa no desenvolvimento do chamado raciocínio multiplicativo. Revisamos a literatura, procurando explicitar perspectivas a partir das quais o papel dessa interpretação do número racional é considerado importante no currículo escolar, assim como descrever resultados de pesquisas empíricas e reflexões teóricas relacionadas com o trabalho escolar com esse subconstruto. Finalizamos apresentando algumas questões que, a nosso ver, ainda merecem atenção. O objetivo do texto é apresentar uma síntese da literatura relacionada com este tópico específico, oferecendo aportes que podem ser relevantes para a construção de uma visão profissional docente a respeito dos números racionais.
