This paper deals with the libertarian organization in Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, during the decade of the 1920s, with special attention to the clarification of the conditions in which the labour’s IV Congress was held in 1928, as there was no certainty of it being held at the time. It evaluates the contribution to the development of the libertarian movement in the south. It also discusses the context of the anarchist participation in the Gaucho state in the 20s, the reasons for its quick decline at the end of the decade due to the shift in the movement’s orientation, expressed at that meeting, and to the exceptional Gaucho political circumstances.
