Resumo: The goal of this article is to discuss about the relations between the local and state power around the cultural patrimony of Assis, a city located in the countryside of the State of São Paulo. The work is divided into four basic parts: in the first one, I analyze the Council for Defense of the Historic, Artistic, Archaeological and Tourist Patrimony - Condephaat, later I focus on the preservation of Theater São Vicente and, after that, I approach the social movement around the preservation of this theater, and, to finish, I point out the filling in of the process to preserve the SANBRA Industry.
