Press, history and memory: from the unicity of the past to other histories

Resumo: In this article, I examine ways, places and the intense investment in remembrances and celebrations promoted in 1908 and based in the “origins” and “development” of the press in Brazil through which a writing of history was produced, gaining centrality and public recognition. We analyze the course of production of some historiographical interpretations, showing its political and empirical choices. So, I rate the ways they have become works of reference, within the celebrations of the Press bicentenary in 2008. I also question the landmarks of memory that helped set up the press, pointing invisibilities and consensus that it produced in the press history and within institutions that preservation of the national memory.

Analiso o percurso de produção de algumas interpretações historiográficas, evidenciando seus compromissos políticos e escolhas empíricas e avalio os modos pelos quais se transformaram em obras de referência, no interior das celebrações do bicentenário da imprensa em 2008.
