Resumo: El presente artículo se interesa por aportar al debate en torno a la relación entre movimientos sociales y Estado. Para esto se hará eje en un concepto que entiendo articulador para comprender tanto el funcionamiento de las instituciones políticas, fundamentalmente el Estado, como los movimientos sociales, sobre todo en América Latina: el territorio. Se basa en el análisis de la realización de un trabajo empírico original sobre una organización social con actividades en la norteña provincia de Jujuy (Argentina), la Organización Barrial Tupac Amaru, y se demuestra por qué se trata de un movimiento socioterritorial urbano.
