Let's talk about them: women with high abilities

Studies in the specialized literature in the area of high abilities indicates a lack of research on the subject of adults, when we refine it to gender topics, more specifically when it comes to studies with women with high abilities, this scenario is even more exiguous. Gender inequalities are historically and culturally established, causing damage to many women's lives even today, It is in this direction that the present paper will seek, through a systematic review, to examine what has been said nationally and internationally on the subject, what are the advances, and the implications in the lives of women with high abilities. The databases used in the study were: Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Portal de Periódicos CAPES, Revista Educação Especial (Special Education Journal), and Revista Brasileira de Educação Especial (Brazilian Journal of Special Education), comprehending the period of the last twenty (20) years of productions, from 2002 to August 2022. Different keywords were used for the searches in three different languages, Portuguese, English and Spanish, these terms are: gifted; talento; women; woman; mujeres; mulheres; high ability; altas capacidades; altas habilidades/superdotação; dotação, in order to expand the range of studies found, and thus bring more quality to the discussions. As a result, extremely important discussions were found in the area, such as: the lack of female role models; women tend to mask their abilities; socially instated gender biases and stereotypes reflect negatively on their lives, and women are systematically under-represented.
