This article aims to analyze information literacy as a factor in promoting social innovation, considering a possible correlation between the theoretical matrices of these two themes. Social innovation aims at social transformation by means of changes in social practices, satisfying human needs and promoting social inclusion, with a consequent change in power relations, since knowledge itself can be regarded as a social innovation. Information literacy is considered the basis for lifelong learning as it is a meta-competence capable of helping the individual to deal with informational needs and to understand, create and critically use information in the most varied contexts. This article aims at outlining the alignment of the themes of social innovation and information literacy by analyzing how the primary studies of the transformational perspective of information literacy were carried out in the information literacy literature and how they can be correlated with social innovation in a perspective of social inclusion and emancipation.
