Augmented reality and dissemination of information for children and teenagers: mixed study

Resumo: | Economically affordable mobile devices and the growth of application stores have contributed to popularize augmented reality. This work evaluated to evaluate the public perception about the use of augmented reality for the dissemination of information. Informational objects in augmented reality, with focus on children and teenagers up to 18 years old, were developed and distributed in 48 localities of the outpatient clinic of a pediatric hospital. These informational objects were presented to 334 participants and their companions, who could evaluate them by using a satisfaction scale from 0 to 10 and a qualitative question. The average score attributed by the participants’ companions to the augmented reality was 8.2, with no significant differences by age or sex. In the qualitative analysis, five frequent themes were identified in 150 comments issued by the companions on augmented reality, which are: it is a new and interesting technology; it suits the child’s world; it is a form of fun; it transforms the hospital environment; and it requires other technological resources. In the process of data convergence, it was observed that, from the 150 comments, 133 (89%) were positive and 17 (11%) were negative. It has been concluded that augmented reality can help the process of information dissemination. |

Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a percepção do público sobre o uso da realidade aumentada para a disseminação de informação. Para tanto, foram desenvolvidos, com foco em crianças e adolescentes até 18 anos, objetos informacionais em realidade aumentada que foram distribuídos em 48 localidades do ambulatório de um hospital pediátrico. Esses objetos informacionais foram demonstrados para 334 participantes e seus acompanhantes que puderam, então, avaliá-los, por uma escala de satisfação e uma questão qualitativa. Na análise quantitativa, a satisfação média atribuída pelos 334 acompanhantes à realidade aumentada foi 8,2, não havendo diferenças significativas na satisfação por faixa etária ou sexo. Na análise qualitativa, foram identificados cinco temas em 150 comentários emitidos pelos acompanhantes sobre a realidade aumentada, quais sejam: é uma tecnologia nova e interessante; adequa-se ao mundo da criança; é uma forma de diversão; transforma o ambiente hospitalar; e requer outros recursos tecnológicos. Na convergência dos dados, observou-se que, dos 150 comentários, 133 (89%) foram positivos e 17 (11%) foram negativos.
