Resumo: This article aims to approach a variety of aspects regarding the asymmetries, as well as their solutions, in regional integration. Departing from this goal, we propose a historical overview that addresses both the first experiences in regional integration in the twentieth century and the new experiences that characterize the twenty-first century, with a special focus on the economic paradigms and the developmental models that have played a role in the region.
