Resumo: | The main goal of this paper is to analyze the comic satire of the author João de Minas in his works of fiction published in middle 1930s. In the 1920s, the satire of his texts is directed against the opponents of Washington Luís’s government, to whom João de Minas aligns politically. In the next decade, after the movement of October 1930 and the rise of Getúlio Vargas, it was directed against the new ruling politicians. However, the writer expands the satire's target to the entire Brazilian society. In wilderness texts and in the urban novels published in 1934, we notice the representation of a fictional world in which the protagonists and a few kind characters are surrounded by corrupt, ambitious, self-interested and perverted people. We take as a guiding thread the fictional treatment of the country’s recent historical events in the 1930s, through which we show how the author João de Minas dissents, by satire, from the legitimation euphoric speeches of the new policy and the new society, in line with a Brazilian humorous tradition that comes from the early days of the Brazilian Republic. |
