eoi/doi Deposit-Electronic Object Identifierhttp://eoi.citefactor.org/10.11248/ehum.v6i2.1300RESUMO: O presente artigo pretende levantar uma discussão historiográfica, em um primeiro momento, sobre o tema da tolerância religiosa, entre seu “surgimento” no limiar da Idade Moderna até o contexto da Ilustração, no recorte temporal proposto. O objetivo será o de pensá-lo como objeto de reflexão histórica e de disputas entre distintas interpretações, além de se apresentar possíveis particularidades sobre seu estudo no contexto luso-brasileiro. A partir daí, tendo como pressuposto de que a tolerância religiosa foi uma matéria considerada heterodoxa dentro de uma realidade marcada pelo projeto de unidade entre o trono e altar, analisar-se-ão as fontes inquisitoriais a fim de discutir em que medida, nessas fontes, as proposições em defesa da tolerância religiosa dialogam com ideias iluministas.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Tolerância religiosa, Iluminismo, InquisiçãoABSTRACT:This article intends to raise a historiographical discussion, at first, on the subject of religious tolerance among its "appearance" on the threshold of the modern age to the illustration context, the proposed time frame. The goal will be to think of it as a historical object of reflection and disputes between different interpretations, and to present possible particulars of their study in the Luso-Brazilian context. From there, with the assumption that religious tolerance was a matter considered unorthodox in a reality marked by unity project between the throne and altar, analyze will be the inquisitorial sources to discuss to what extent these sources , the propositions in defense of religious tolerance dialogue with Enlightenment ideas.KEYWORDS: religious tolerance, enlightenment, InquisitionRecebido: 27/07/2013     Aceito: 04/08/2013
