FROM NAZARETH TO SÉ: CÍRIO DE NAZARÉ, CULTURE, ECONOMY AND RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT

Círio de Nazaré is considered, by UNESCO, intangible cultural heritage of humanity and consists of the largest procession of the Catholic religion in the world, held every second Sunday of October in the city of Belém, capital of Pará state. The purpose of this article is to discuss its contribution for culture and realization of the right to development. Development is understood here in the light of Celso Furtado’s  teachings, for whom reflections on the topic require an understanding of social change, meeting basic human needs. It is shown that Círio is an example of an important event for the construction of development, with social inclusion, innovation and valorization of the country's cultural diversity and, therefore, it is very relevant implement public policies for it, contributing to the effectiveness of the right to development.
