Resumo: We understand research ethics as daily actions under taken to build trust, which are affected by a commitment to transform our social practices. The objective of this article is to analyze the relationship between a researcher/film director and the film’s protagonist when making decisions about images produced and included in a film about the life story of Keila Simpson and the social movement of transvestites. In addition to a strictly aesthetic dimension, this decision-making process involved permanent negotiations between the two in an ethical undertaking that went beyond an effort to maintain secrecy, anonymity or formal authorization. The dialogues about the release of scenes related to the private life of the protagonist and her relationships with family and prostitution redefined her private life and made explicit the political implications of forms of depicting and seeing the lives of transvestites. It is this effort to incorporate ethical challenges, as structural elements of research, that reveals the opportunity for academic production that is committed to sharing the thinking and doing with research subjects.

Universidade Estadual de Campinas2021-09-15info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoTextoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/otherapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/cadpagu/article/view/8666962Cadernos Pagu; n. 61 (2021); e216110Cadernos Pagu; No. 61 (2021); e216110Cadernos Pagu; Núm. 61 (2021); e2161101809-4449reponame:Cadernos Pagu (Online)instname:Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP)instacron:UNICAMPporhttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/cadpagu/article/view/8666962/27275Brazil; ContemporaryBrasil; ContemporáneoBrasil; ContemporâneoCopyright (c) 2021 Gilson Goulart Carrijo, Emerson Fernando Rasera, Flávia B.
