“Sertão dos Xavantes... Sertão de Amaro Leite... Sertão Goiano”: an 18th century border town

Resumo: My research on cities and rivers in Brazil, more specifically those in northern “Goiás” [state of Goias], focused on the territory where the city of Amaro Leite was built. It was there called “Sertão dos Xavantes”, and later, “Sertão de Amaro Leite”, where was formed the first axis of settlement and communication in the region, the gold-bearing city of “Amaro Leite”. There is an important link of the “Rio do Ouro” [Gold River] in the historical-geographical configuration of its emergence and its respective city space. This article addresses this issue.

Fue allí, llamado Sertão dos Xavantes, más tarde Sertão de Amaro Leite, donde se formó el primer eje de asentamiento y comunicación de la región, el pueblo dorado Amaro Leite. Existe un vínculo importante del río Ouro en la configuración histórico-geográfica de su fisonomía y en su espacio urbanoMinhas pesquisas sobre cidades e rios no Brasil, mais especificamente as do norte goiano, recaiu sobre o território onde se edificou a cidade de Amaro Leite. Foi aí no, então, denominado “Sertão dos Xavantes”, posteriormente, “Sertão de Amaro Leite” que se formou o primeiro eixo de povoamento e comunicação da região, a cidade aurífera Amaro Leite. Há um elo importante do rio do Ouro na configuração histórico-geográfico do seu surgimento e do seu respectivo espaço citadino.
