Resumo: Over time, the public market acquired an importance in the dynamic of the city, acting not only as physical space of trade, but also as a place of sociability and urban vitality. In this perspective, this article reflects upon the Central Market of Goiania [in the city of Goiania, Brazil], identifying changes since its construction until nowadays. The article investigates the relationship between the people of Goias [state of Goias, Brazil] and the space, and how its attractions contribute to its maintenance as a place of sociability and identity, making it a place of tradition in the Central District of Goiania.

En esa perspectiva, este artículo reflexiona sobre el Mercado Central de Goiânia, identificando los cambios desde su construcción hasta la actualidad. Investiga la relación que los goienses tienen con el espacio y cómo sus atractivos contribuyen para el mantenimiento del espacio como lugar de sociabilidad e identidad, convirtiéndolo en un lugar de tradición en el Sector Central.Ao longo do tempo, o mercado público adquiriu um importante papel dentro da dinâmica da cidade, atuando não apenas como espaço físico de comércio, mas também como lugar de sociabilidade e vitalidade urbana. Nessa perspectiva, o presente artigo tece reflexões acerca do Mercado Central de Goiânia, identificando as mudanças desde sua construção até os dias atuais.
