Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture: food and nutrition security, food behavior and social transformations in a community garden

Resumo: The Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture (UPA) has strategically stood out in the essence of food self-sufficiency of the cities in a way that it can assure food and nutrition security (FNS), promote healthy eating habits and it also has been presenting different social transformations in collective spaces. The objective of this research is to evaluate the impact of the UPA on the FNS and the food behavior of the families participant of the community garden located in the Campeche neighborhood, city of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state (Brazil). This is a qualitative research carried out with 11 participants of the mentioned garden. An audio-recorded interview was performed with a semi-structured questionnaire. Through these declarations, it was possible to understand the community garden as a space of promotion of health and strength of the healthy eating habits and the preservation of the food culture of the city. In the garden, the agro-ecological production of food is prioritized focusing on social, economic and environmental sustainability. The community work favored and intensified the interpersonal relations among neighbors and stimulated the popular protagonism. It was concluded that the community garden is effective in the promotion and assurance of the FNS principles, strength of healthy food practices and in the citizenship development.

A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo avaliar o impacto da AUP sobre a SAN e o comportamento alimentar de famílias participantes de uma horta comunitária situada no bairro Campeche, do município de Florianópolis (Santa Catarina). Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa realizada com 11 participantes da horta. Foi aplicada entrevista por meio de questionário semiestruturado, com gravação em áudio. Por meio dos depoimentos foi possível entender a horta comunitária como espaço para promoção de saúde de fortalecimento das práticas alimentares saudáveis e preservação da cultura alimentar do município. É priorizada a produção agroecológica dos alimentos com vistas à sustentabilidade social, econômica e ambiental. O trabalho comunitário facilitou e intensificou as relações interpessoais entre vizinhos e impulsionou o protagonismo popular.
