Food and nutrition security, urban poverty and its relations with the Urban Agriculture: fragments of a discussion

From the urbanization process the issue of food security and nutrition takes alarming proportions, known the increasing rates of urban poverty. Therefore, this article aims to present fragments of a discussion about food security and nutrition related to the development of urban agriculture, oncethis manifests itself as an alternative to the fight against hunger, malnutrition and poverty, especially urban population, given that the nutritional deficiency acquires in childhood continues throughout the life of the individual. Methodology based on a literature review and research and documentation, through books, articles, dissertations and electronic documents that deal with the subject. To illustrate, we have a survey and analysis of quantitative data from  the Pan American Health Organization and the Children’s Mission, working in two districts of the city of Montes Claros. From the data, it was generated a map of the distribution of poverty in Brazil, regions and graphs relating to child malnutrition in the neighborhoods. In conclusion, it is observed that becomes increasingly urgent search for alternative more efficient and continuous to the problems related to food and nutrition security, considering that hunger is a scourge that has only increased in recent years, despite several initiatives implemented to minimize the problem around the world.
