Com aportes do campo dos estudos sobre linguagem e do campo da epistemologia, apresenta-se uma perspectiva de leitura de imagens no âmbito do ensino de ciências, de tal modo que se explicite sua não-transparência em relação à realidade que representam. Privilegia-se a questão da relação entre imagem e realidade, apontando que toda imagem é construção sobre a realidade, havendo, portanto, um distanciamento entre o objeto “dentro” da imagem e o objeto real que ela representa. Esse distanciamento pode variar, implicando diferentes relações icônicas e epistemológicas. Propõe-se o uso simultâneo de diferentes imagens de um mesmo objeto ou situação, com diferentes graus de iconicidade, no sentido de trabalhar a diferença nas condições de produção que caracterizam a relação entre imagem e referente, colocando em contato diferentes perspectivas epistemológicas implicadas na produção das diferentes imagens. Esse modo de leitura proposto insere-se numa perspectiva que vê o conhecimento escolar como lugar de confronto e relação entre conhecimento cotidiano e conhecimento científico e lugar de formação de leitores de imagens na sociedade atual.Abstract:In this paper we present an approach for reading images in science education, based on studies about language and epistemology. This is aimed at showing the nontransparency of images in relation to the reality that they represent. We focus on the relation between image and reality, pointing out that images are constructions about reality; thus, there is a distance between the object “inside” the image and the real object represented by the image. This distance may vary, causing different iconic and epistemological relations. We propose the simultaneous use of different images of the same object or situation; images with different degrees of iconicity, to work on the different production conditions that characterize the image/reference concept relation. The reading mode we propose is based on an approach according to which school knowledge is an area of confrontation and relation between common knowledge and scientific knowledge, and where the formation of image readers takes place in today’s society.Key words: Images.
