The option for schooling in university secondary schools in Argentina: school choice between glass ceilings and social closure

Resumo: | This article revisit the debates about school choice focusing on a group of university high schools in the capital of the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. From exploring the sociocultural composition of school fees, we are known to families who attend these prestigious schools and revise discussions on school choice regarding processes of social closure that persist beyond they are state high schools that have a public and open lottery as a method of admission. The methodological approach started from a multiple case study involving the combination of quantitative and qualitative data collection methodologies. Between 2012 and 2016 they were made observations, interviewed in depth 13 central actors to the institutions, made 67 structured interviews to teachers selected randomly and recovered a corpus composed of six institutional documents included information on sociodemographic chips of the students.It is concluded that it is the middle sectors that colonize this fragment of schools. |

Tras explorar la composición sociocultural de las matrículas de las escuelas, se caracteriza a las familias que asisten y se revisan las discusiones sobre la elección escolar en relación con procesos de cierre social que persisten más allá de que se trata de secundarias estatales que cuentan con un sorteo público “abierto” como método de admisión. El enfoque metodológico partió de un estudio de caso múltiple, que implicó la combinación de metodologías cuantitativas y cualitativas. Entre los años 2012 y 2016, fueron realizadas observaciones, entrevistados en profundidad 13 actores “clave”, efectuadas 67 entrevistas semiestructuradas a docentes seleccionados aleatoriamente y recuperado un corpus compuesto por seis documentos institucionales que incluyeron información sociodemográfica de los estudiantes.
