Resumo: The year 2020 was quite challenging for the world population due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought thousands of people to confinement with its high infection rate. Confinement meant that all activities were carried out in the home office, but some professionals had to prepare for this and adapt. Among these are the employees of higher education institutions who, accustomed to face-to-face teaching, have made significant changes in their lives. One of the factors necessary to perform work activities at home is good lighting that provides visual comfort, aiming to avoid various symptoms of fatigue. This work developed a case study, applying an opinion poll, on the impacts of lighting related to the transition from work away from home to the home office due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the academic community of an institution of higher education who started working in a home office. Its methodology was divided into three stages: literature review, virtual form application, and data analysis. Among the analyzed sample, 83.05% were professors and 74.6% were aged between 41 and 65. Furthermore, 42% of the contributors to this sample carried out adaptations in their home office aiming at better visual comfort. Among adaptations, 27% indicated difficulties in making adaptations due to financial factors, lack of knowledge, the impossibility of moving furniture and objects or did not worry about it.
