Resumo: This paper, developed according to an historiographical approach, has as its main objective to study the booksproduced by Cades – the Campaign for the Improvement and Diffusion of Secondary Education created by theBrazilian federal Government to disseminate and improve higher education in Brazil. A particular discussion isdone focusing the titles related to Math teaching and learning. We argue that the many books published by theCampaign – among other many actions also sponsored by Cades – were part of a broader intention aiming tocreate a new model of teacher for the secondary education in Brazil during the Fifties and Sixties.
