A panorama of mathematics teacher education and UFMG mathematics teachers

Resumo: Aiming at contributing with Anped 2008 ’s Math Education workinggroup, this text presents a) our view of contemporary education and teachereducation; b) a brief outline of the curriculum reform of Mathematics TeacherEducation undergraduate course at UFMG, c) teacher licensure students viewsof teacher-student relationships, d) teacher licensure students’ views on therelationships between teachers, students and knowledge, as well as therelationships between the licensure and bachelor’s degree in the Mathematicsprogram. We also present a continuing education program developed at the School of Education at UFMG, a latu sensu graduate program (specialization)which focuses on the development of public school teachers, specially the groupof Math Education. Finally, we approach the understanding of “schooledmathematics knowledge” in order to strengthen the establishment of a teachereducation program that prepares student-teachers to interpret and analyze datafrom teaching contexts. We conclude the work by emphasizing the need ofcreating proper spaces for the education of Math teachers.

We conclude the work by emphasizing the need ofcreating proper spaces for the education of Math teachers. Com o objetivo de subsidiar debate no GT Educação Matemática, na Anped 2008, apresentamos este texto, em que expomos nossa visão da educação hoje, da formação docente e um breve panorama da reformulação do Curso de Matemática da UFMG, destacando a modalidade Licenciatura; consideramos a relação professor-aluno-conhecimento e a relação Bacharelado-Licenciatura, a partir de opiniões dos licenciandos; apresentamos o projeto de formação continuada em desenvolvimento na FaE-UFMG, especialização em educação básica para professores do Ensino Fundamental das escolas municipais, especificamente das turmas de Educação Matemática, onde se resgata uma relação importante entre teoria e prática. Ao final, revelamos como essenciais o entendimento sobre o “conhecimento matemático escolar” para o fortalecimento de um espaço para a Licenciatura na formação docente e a necessidade de preparar o licenciando para interpretar e analisar os contextos de trabalho em que se insere. E sugerimos, novamente, a premência de propor espaços próprios para a formação profissional docente.
