The relationship between art and politics: a theoretical-methodological introduction

Resumo: | This article discusses the relationship between art and politics within the tradition of leftist politics, synthesized in the concept of "committed art" and other related concepts. Starting with a discussion of the existing literature which has addressed the topic, the paper develops in two directions: a mapping of the debate between the classical Marxist authors on the question of culture (Lukács, Brecht, Adorno and Benjamin), and the history of the experiences and cultural movements occurring in the context of the Russian Revolution, seen here as a laboratory of aesthetic and ideological experiences. Finally, the article points out some theoretical and methodological problems faced by the sociologist or historian researching in this subject field. |

A partir del debate bibliográfico que abordó el tema, la exposición se desarrolla en dos direcciones: el mapeo del debate entre los autores clásicos del marxismo en torno a la cuestión cultural (Lukács, Brecht, Adorno y Benjamin) y la historia de experiencias y movimientos ocurridos. en el contexto de la Revolución Rusa, visto aquí como un laboratorio de experiencias estético-ideológicas. Finalmente, el artículo señala algunos problemas teórico-metodológicos a los que se enfrenta el sociólogo o historiador que investiga este campo temático.Este artigo visa discutir a relação entre arte e política dentro da tradição de esquerda, sintetizada no conceito de “arte engajada” e outros conceitos correlatos. A partir do debate bibliográfico que abordou o tema, desenvolve-se a exposição em duas direções: o mapeamento do debate entre os autores clássicos do marxismo em torno da questão cultural (Lukács, Brecht, Adorno e Benjamin) e a história das experiências e movimentos culturais ocorridos no contexto da Revolução Russa, vista aqui como um laboratório de experiências estético-ideológicas.
