Apesar de estudos recentes sobre o seu potencial terapêutico em casos de dependência química e depressão, há uma carência de conhecimento sobre a interação entre a ayahuasca e abordagens psicoterapêuticas já estabelecidas. Este trabalho teve por objetivo principal descrever como os usuários rituais de ayahuasca que também fazem psicoterapia compreendem esses settings e investigar o possível potencial terapêutico do chá através das entrevistas desses participantes. Através de entrevistas semiestruturadas, dezoito voluntários, sendo dez mulheres e oito homens com idade entre 23 e 43 anos, relataram suas vivências, e, após serem transcritas, o material passou pelo processo de análise de conteúdo, produzindo três principais categorias: "o significado da terapia e do ritual", "a articulação dos settings, e "imaginário sobre o uso terapêutico". As categorias emergentes revelaram as percepções de diferenças apresentadas pelos participantes entre ritual e psicoterapia, a sua potencial complementariedade, e incorporação da estrutura ritual no que tange o potencial terapêutico do chá. As categorias foram organizadas e detalhadas em subcategorias, unidades de análise e de contexto. A teoria da Psicologia Analítica de Carl Gustav Jung embasou a discussão dos resultados do trabalho a partir de conceitos como a alquimia, o processo de individuação e a transcendência. Pode-se, por meio deste estudo, concluir que há uma série de peculiaridades relativas ao uso ritual do chá em comparação à psicoterapia, por parte dos que realizam as duas atividades. Ainda que haja potencial para articulação da psicoterapia com o uso ritual da ayahuasca, nem todos os psicoterapeutas possuem abertura para trabalhar em seu setting a experiência de seus pacientes com a ayahuasca. Os participantes também delimitaram que há diferenças entre os dois settings e seu modo de atuar. Assim, este trabalho permite trazer alguns insights para a discussão da interação da psicoterapia, em suas diversas abordagens com as diversas formas de se consumir ritualmente a ayahuascaAbstract: Ayahuasca is a psychedelic brew of Amazonian origin. Its use in Brazil is regulated for religious purposes and it presents promising therapeutic effects. Despite recent studies on its therapeutic potential in cases of addiction and depression, there is a lack of knowledge about the interaction between ayahuasca and the established psychotherapeutic schools. The main aim of this work is to describe how ritual ayahuasca users who are psychotherapy patients understand this interaction and to investigate the potential therapeutic effects of the brew according to the discourse of these participants. Through semi-structured interviews, eighteen volunteers reported their experiences. After transcription, this material was submitted to a content analysis process, producing three main categories: "meaning of therapy and ritual", "interaction between settings", and "imaginary about therapeutic use". The emergent categories revealed the perceptions of differences among the participants between ritual and psychotherapy, their potential complementarity, and the incorporation of the ritual structure in the therapeutic potential of brew. The categories were organized and detailed into subcategories and context analysis units. Carl Gustav Jung¿s Theory of Analytical Psychology grounded the discussion of the results of this work, Concepts such as the alchemical, the process of individuation and transcendence were used. It is possible, through this study, to conclude that there are a number of peculiarities related to the ritual use of tea in comparison to psychotherapy, from the standpoint of those who attend both activities. Although there is a potential for complementarity, it is possible to perceive that not all psychotherapists are open to incorporate in their therapeutic work the experience of their patients with ayahuasca. Participants also established that there are differences between the two settings and their way of acting.
