O objetivo desta pesquisa é propor reflexões sobre a relação entre tecnologia e democracia, a partir do movimento hackerspace. Na literatura, hackerspaces têm sido colocados como espaços de resistência e de contracultura às hegemonias de poder que exercem seu controle a partir da tecnologia. Além disso, é objetivo secundário observar as contradições entre as conceituações feitas na literatura sobre estes espaços e os dados obtidos. A pesquisa foi feita através de revisão bibliográfica sobre cultura hacker, hackerspaces e as principais teorias da filosofia da tecnologia que enfatizam a relação entre tecnologia e democracia, e pesquisa qualitativa. Foram aplicados cinco questionários online e foi realizada uma visita ao hackerspace LHC. Os dados foram analisados e interpretados a partir da teoria de análise de conteúdo de Bardin (1977). De acordo com os resultados da pesquisa, embora muitas características dos hackerspaces apresentadas pelo referencial teórico tenham se confirmado, nota-se que os conceitos consolidados na literatura precisam explorar melhor a complexidade e as contradições do movimento. Além disso, hackerspaces se revelam uma potência de novas possibilidades para aprofundar a relação tecnologia e democracia, principalmente por serem considerados espaços de liberdade e experimentação da tecnologia. Esta é uma pesquisa exploratória e não teve intenção generalizar as reflexões elaboradas para a complexa realidade dos hackerspaces no país. Interessa-nos mais refletir sobre estes espaços em busca de aprendizados afim de colaborar com os estudos recentes de maneira críticaAbstract: Hackerspaces are spaces for experimentation in technology, focusing on the exchange and sharing of ideas and values between people, inspired by the hacker culture. The objective of this research is to propose reflections on the relationship between technology and democracy, from the hackerspace movement. In the literature, hackerspaces are placed as spaces of resistance and counterculture to the hegemonies of power that exert their control from the technology. In addition, it is secondary objective to observe the contradictions between the conceptualizations made in the literature about those spaces and the data obtained. The research was done through a bibliographical revision on hacker culture, hackerspaces and the main theories of the philosophy of technology that emphasize the relation between technology and democracy, and qualitative research. Five questionnaires were applied online and a visit was made to the LHC hackerspace. The data were analyzed and interpreted from the qualitative content analysis theory of Bardin (1977). According to the results of the research, although many characteristics of the hackerspaces presented by the theoretical framework have been confirmed, it is noted that the concepts consolidated in the literature need to better explore the complexity and contradictions of the movement. In addition, hackerspaces prove to be a power of new possibilities to deepen the relation technology and democracy, mainly for being considered spaces of freedom and experimentation of the technology. This is an exploratory research and did not intend to generalize the elaborated reflections for the complex reality of the hackerspaces in the country.
