O recorte selecionado para este trabalho abrange os poemas escritos em língua inglesa pelo autor após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, período que constitui sua fase criativa de maior produtividade e amadurecimento. Para viabilizar a leitura dos poemas e os comentários à tradução, a apresentação dos textos traduzidos para o português foi precedida por um estudo da poesia de Beckett, analisada a partir de três principais eixos: o primeiro abarcando as questões idiomáticas; o segundo, os gêneros literários e as temáticas; e o último, a poética do autor. A partir das ricas relações propostas por Beckett em suas produções, incluindo referências externas e internas à própria obra, trata-se de explorar uma característica fundante de sua escrita: a criação de uma leitura difícil, recalcitrante. Após o fim da Segunda Guerra, tal característica passou a se mostrar de forma mais surpreendente e inovadora, consoante às tendências modernistas, com textos que invariavelmente rumavam ao silêncio. Nesse sentido, a matéria de Beckett passa a ser não só a palavra, mas também as pausas, de modo que sua obra se constrói a partir de vazios, constitui-se deles. Explorando a circularidade do tempo, a finitude da vida, o fracasso do homem e de sua necessidade de comunicação, o escritor perpassa questões metafísicas e a ausência das respostas para tocar o universo mais íntimo do leitor, aquele que abriga sua dorAbstract: This thesis consists of a commented translation of the poetry of Samuel Beckett (1906-1989), Irish author who wrote several works, exploring also very diverse genres, such as dramatic plays, romances, poems, short texts, among others. The thematic approach selected for this essay comprises the poems written in English by the author after World War II, period that constitutes his most creative phase. In this work, the translation into Portuguese was preceded by a study of Beckett¿s poetry, so that both the translation and the commenting could be properly constructed. The study analyses the poems from three main axes: the first with questions concerning the languages; the second concerning literary genres and thematic; the third concerning poetics. Although it is not the only way of approaching this subject, it allowed an exploration of the complexity of Beckett¿s writing, including internal and external references, the convergence of form and content, and the creation of a difficult, recalcitrant reading ¿ which are fundamental characteristics of his oeuvre. In turn, after the end of World War II, the concept of difficulties in reading started showing itself in a more surprising and innovative way, consonant with modernist tendencies, by proposing texts that always headed towards silence. In this sense, the author¿s matter becomes not only the words, but also the pauses, in a way that his writing builds itself based on empty spaces; it is constructed from them.
