Brazilian journalistic chronicle in João do Rio

Resumo: This work purposes to exibith noticeable elements of the Brazilian journalistic chronicle from the professionalization of the press in Brazil in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries based on one of our first writers, João do Rio. Only by his mastery, among others, that the chronicle genre made it to our journals, which later showed up on Anthologies as well, by editors who compiled it and publish it in books. To evidence those noticeable elements, we’ll go into João do Rio’s texts to expose snippets associated to his own comments/analysis. Chronicle as a consacrated genre, widely read in Brazil requires continued study about his own perceptive traits. To report facets of this genre constitutes an major work to discourse scholars and its genres.

Foi com a maestria desse autor, entre outros, que a crônica se consolidou em nossos jornais, mais tarde também nas Antologias, com editores que as compilavam e publicavam em livros. Para evidenciar esses elementos caracterizadores das crônicas, buscaremos os textos de João do Rio, expondo alguns fragmentos com comentários/análises breves.
