The indigenous and the city: panorama of urban indigenous villages in Campo Grande/MS

This article approaches the presence of indigenous peoples, mostly of the Terena ethnic group, in the urban area of Campo Grande / MS, these peoples migration process, and deepens in the main signs of the Urban Villages (AUs) of this city. The objective was to analyze the living conditions, housing and demands of these AUs as a way of characterizing the presence of indigenous peoples in urban space and contribute scientifically to the theme. Thus, six villages were evaluated according to their reality of creation (historical context and urban implantation) and current state of conservation (type of housing and community needs). Therefore, it was identified that the migration of indigenous peoples is mainly due to the search for quality of life and opportunities, as well as the implementation and creation of public policies that contemplate them, since the current scenario is of precariousness and physical-social exclusion, dissonant with the culture of this peoples.
