Marginal relations: residuality and urban stigmatization in Orla Conde, Rio de Janeiro

Resumo: The residual spaces are those spaces erased from the urban collective imagination, and often neglected by the narrative in which they are inserted. They are places that have undergone a process of socio-spatial stigmatization linked to a policy of exception. This work discusses this urban phenomenon observed in the Orla Conde area, in Porto Maravilha in Rio de Janeiro. The area underwent several interventions before the mega-events held in the city in 2014 and 2016, including the implosion of the Elevado Perimetral. Methodologically the research operates mainly by discussing the concepts of residuality and urban stigmatization, phenomena that are observed in this region of the city after the intervention. The research results show the existence of remnants of a socio-spatial residuality pre-existing urban reforms and that new forms of residuality have emerged in the region.

São lugares que sofreram um processo de estigmatização socioespacial vinculado a uma política da exceção. O presente trabalho apresenta uma reflexão sobre tal fenômeno urbano observado na área da Orla Conde, no Porto Maravilha do Rio de Janeiro. A área sofreu diversas intervenções prévias aos megaeventos sediados na cidade em 2014 e 2016, entre elas a implosão do Elevado Perimetral. Metodologicamente a pesquisa opera discutindo principalmente os conceitos de residualidade e estigmatização urbana, fenômenos que foram observados Orla Conde e parte da região portuária reformada.
