Residual spaces of the Complexo do Alemão (RJ): from socio-spatial stigmatization to appropriation potential

Resumo: After the major sporting events, the World Cup (2014) and the Olympic Games (2016), the Complexo do Alemão, one of the largest favela complexes in Rio de Janeiro, has undergone a process of degradation of the infrastructure emplemented at the time. This paper qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes, from the perspective of urban residuality and socio-spatial stigmatization, the residual areas generated by the installation of the cable car support pillars. Six years after the cable car was halted, these residual spaces should be seen by the public authorities as an opportunity to build collective spaces for leisure activities, especially in the pandemic and post-pandemic context, improving the quality of life of people in territories of high socio-spatial vulnerability.

Este trabalho analisa qualitativa e quantitativamente, sob a ótica da residualidade urbana e da estigmatização socioespacial, as áreas residuais geradas pela instalação dos pilares de sustentação do teleférico.
