Resumo: The article discusses the policies, discourses and practices involving the Portuguese language in Angola in relationship with the languages of Bantu origin. The text presents not only official discourses, from the educational sphere, but also localized conceptions, in which Portuguese operates in a hybridized way – constituting the Angolan Portuguese – or in parallel with Bantu languages. We focus on the Angolan rural context, considering the importance of a bilingual and translingual policy, in respect to linguistic diversity. Finally, the article advocates that linguistic diversity should not be seen as a problem, but as a cultural and political asset to be legitimized.

El texto presenta no solo discursos oficiales, desde el ámbito educativo, sino también concepciones localizadas, en las que el portugués opera de manera híbrida, constituyendo el portugués angoleño, o en paralelo con las lenguas bantú. Nos centramos en el contexto rural angoleño, considerando la importancia de una política bilingüe y translingual, con respecto a la diversidad lingüística. Finalmente, el artículo aboga por que la diversidad lingüística no debe ser vista como un problema, sino como un activo cultural y político para ser legitimado.O artigo aborda as políticas, discursos e práticas envolvendo a língua portuguesa em Angola em relação com as línguas angolanas de origem bantu. O texto apresenta tanto discursos oficiais, da esfera educacional, como concepções oriundas de sujeitos locais, em que a língua portuguesa opera de forma hibridizada – constituindo o português angolano – ou paralelamente às línguas bantu. Enfocamos o contexto rural angolano, atentando para a importância de uma política bilíngue e translíngue, em respeito à diversidade linguística.
