Queer stays, and pur moves! : still about Queer and past material culture

Resumo: | The new conservative and moralist wave that has been rolling over the country convinced me of the need to revisit queer and write this brief essay, focusing on its relations with material culture studies of the past. The queer theories, while forever indebted to younger social movements such as feminist and LGBT, aim to offer queer’s specific inputs and outlooks to sociopolitical stances against all incarnations of heteronormativity. Queer is an inclusive and challenging concept that can help us to envisage a much more complex and diversified past, and confront monolithic interpretations that may be propagating, congealing or legitimizing ingrained prejudices of the present. Given the renovated threats to paralyze diversity studies in our schools, more than ever, queer has to stay, especially because it is movement. |

Las teorías queer, si bien están en deuda con los movimientos sociales más antiguos, como las feministas y las luchas LGBT, tienen como objetivo ofrecer contribuciones y perspectivas específicas queer a las posiciones sociopolíticas opuestas a todas las formas de heteronormatividad. Queer es un concepto inclusivo y desafiante que puede permitirnos visualizar un pasado mucho más complejo y diverso, y confrontar interpretaciones monolíticas que pueden propagar, congelar o legitimar prejuicios arraigados del presente. Teniendo en cuenta las amenazas revividas de la parálisis de los estudios de diversidad en nuestras escuelas, más que nunca, el queer debe permanecer, especialmente porque es movimiento.A nova onda conservadora e moralista que se arrastou sobre o país nos últimos anos convenceu-me da necessidade de revisitar o queer e escrever esse breve ensaio, focando em sua relação com os estudos da Cultura Material do passado. As teorias queer, conquanto eternamente em débito com movimentos sociais mais antigos como os feministas e as lutas LGBT, visa oferecer contribuições e perspectivas específicas do queer aos posicionamentos sociopolíticos opostos a todas as formas de heteronormatividade. Queer é um conceito inclusivo e desafiador que pode nos permitir visualizar um passado muito mais complexo e diversificado, e confrontarmos interpretações monolíticas que podem propagar, congelar ou legitimar preconceitos arraigados do presente.
