The scarllet shoes: the body in Amazonian Archeology, and the paths designed by a Queer positionality

Resumo: In the present paper, the thought-provoking short film “Os Sapatos de Aristeu”, by René Guerra, was the starting point for the promotion of a debate on how the notion of corporeality has been tackled by Archaeology, with a special emphasis on Amazonian Archaeology. We discuss how much the field has taken into account Gender and Queertheories and which theoretical frameworks have been used for their study. Based on that, we point out some potential directions for QueerTheory in the field,highlighting how it resonates with the Amazonian material and emphasizing the role of Queerpositionality as more than a so-called theoretical apparatus that is already established.

Reflexionamos el cuánto la producción académica sobre género y teoría Queerha impregnado este campo y a través de cuáles fundamentos teóricos el tema ha ganado relieve. Con base en este cotejo, también señalamos algunos rumbos que la teoría Queerle ofrece al campo, destacando cómo esta dialoga con el universo material amazónico y el potencial de una posicionalidad Queer, más allá de un supuesto engranaje teórico ya establecido.Neste artigo partimos das provocações colocadas pelo curta-metragem “Os Sapatos de Aristeu”, dirigido por René Guerra, para conduzir o debate sobre como o tema da corporeidade tem sido abordado pela Arqueologia e, particularmente, pela Arqueologia Amazônica. Interrogamos o quanto a produção acadêmica sobre gênero e teoria Queer tem sido absorvida neste campo, e através de quais suportes teóricos o tema tem vindo à tona.
