Shards as heritage: the know-how to make and to use them

Resumo: Brazilian cultural heritage permeates several facets and different values, among which is the value of memory. When thinking about heritage, several examples come to mind, but mainly the notable cultural expressions and monumental constructions. In this article, we propose a look to the everyday materiality, the fine earthenware valued as family inheritance, but also course clay pottery, whose know-how are passed on through generations. We aim to elevate this materiality as cultural heritage beyond an archaeological perspective, highlighting the sensitive aspects contained in the clays. In this sense, we reinforce that the distance between what we understand as archaeological heritage and as cultural heritage is nothing more than a reflex of the epistemological rupture between the historical period and the contemporary present.

Al pensar en patrimonio nos vienen varios ejemplos, pero principalmente destacables expresiones culturales y construcciones monumentales. En este artículo proponemos una mirada a la materialidad cotidiana, a la vajilla valorada en la herencia, pero también a la cerámica de barro, cuyo saber hacer se transmite de generación en generación. Buscamos elevar esta materialidad como patrimonio cultural más allá de la perspectiva arqueológica, resaltando los aspectos sensibles presentes en la arcilla. De este modo, subrayamos que la distancia entre lo que entendemos por patrimonio arqueológico y patrimonio cultural es un reflejo de la ruptura epistemológica entre el período histórico y el presente contemporáneo.O patrimônio cultural brasileiro permeia várias facetas e diferentes valores, dentre eles o valor da memória. Ao pensar em patrimônio, diversos exemplos vêm à nossa mente, mas principalmente notórias expressões culturais e construções monumentais. Neste artigo propomos um olhar para a materialidade cotidiana, as louças valorizadas na herança, mas também as cerâmicas de barro, cujo saber-fazer é passado por gerações. Buscamos elevar essa materialidade como patrimônio cultural para além do olhar arqueológico, evidenciando os aspectos sensíveis contidos nas argilas.
