Resumo: Present in Maringá, the Atlantic Forest is one of the biomes protected by Brazilian law, and its preservation is a right of the Brazilian people, as established in the Federal Constitution. The environmental compensation of tree suppression is the best tool we have to protect the biome simultaneously with the development of the city. Focusing on the study of urban allotments, the methodology for this work is composed of the compilation of current legislation, interviews, data collection, environmental impact studies, and investigation of best practices. Given this, this work aims to explain the operation and basis of environmental protection legislation in force in the municipality of Maringá, Paraná. Throughout the survey, it became clear the distinction of the city of Maringá at the national level concerning protective measures and supervision to carry out environmental compensation.

A compensação ambiental da supressão de árvores é a melhor ferramenta que temos para proteger o bioma de modo simultâneo ao desenvolvimento da cidade. Com o foco no estudo de caso de loteamentos urbanos, a metodologia se constituiu a partir da compilação da legislação vigente, de entrevista, do levantamento de dados, dos estudos de impactos ambientais e investigação das melhores práticas. Diante disso, este trabalho visa explicar o funcionamento e embasamento da legislação de proteção ambiental vigente no município de Maringá, Paraná.
