Resumo: | The use of plants as surface coverage or incorporated is a practice used for a long time in order to provide organic matter for the soil, as it improves many factors such as edaphological, chemical and physical characteristics, which leads to a reduction in fertilizer costs. However, many plant species release allelochemicals that can beneficially or detrimentally interfere with the germination and development of other plants. The yellow ipe (Tabebuia serratifolia (Vahl) G. Nichols) has allelopathic potential and can influence the productivity of agricultural systems. Vegetables are widely used in bioassays due to their short life cycle and sensitivity to changes in the environment. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the allelopathic effect of Tabebuia serratifolia (Vahl) G. Nichols on the initial growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and kale (Brassica oleracea L.). The experiment was carried out in Maringá-PR in pots, in the presence or absence of yellow ipe leaves as incorporated or superficial. The experimental design was carried out in a completely randomized manner, with five treatments and three replications of each. Data were evaluated by analysis of variance and means between different treatments compared by Scott Knott test at 5% significance. There was no allelopathic effect of ipe on the initial growth of lettuce and cabbage. However, the results may have been persuaded due to bad weather, such as frost during the experiments. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out more studies to confirm the data. |
