Resumo: Family power is essential for the maintenance of social order. Its full and conscious exercise provides a healthy family environment and enables the construction of structured and balanced families, where mutual respect and awareness of the importance of life in society result in the best interests of children and adolescents. On the basis of this obvious importance, its understanding becomes mandatory not only for family members, but for all those operating in the legal sphere. Thus, we realize that the best way to understand this institute will be through the analysis of its historical-evolutionary constitution, which will culminate with a comprehensive view of the theme and its applicability to the present day. Finally, we will analyze Law 13.715 of 24 September 2018, which provides for the possibility of loss of family power by the perpetrator of certain crimes against another who also holds the same family power or against their son, daughter or other descendant.

Seu exercício pleno e consciente proporciona a existência de um ambiente familiar saudável e possibilita a construção de famílias estruturadas e equilibradas, onde o respeito mútuo e a consciência da importância da vida em sociedade resultam no melhor interesse da criança e do adolescente. Com base nessa evidente importância, sua compreensão torna-se obrigatória não somente para os membros que integram a família, mas para todos aqueles que operam na esfera jurídica. Sendo assim, neste artigo se busca entender esse instituto, o que será realizado por meio da análise de sua constituição histórico-evolutiva, que culminará com uma visão abrangente do tema e de sua aplicabilidade nos dias atuais.
