Resumo: | The main objective of this research is to verify whether mediation, as an alternative method of conflict resolution, is an efficient solution to elucidate family conflicts and prevent the occurrence of parental alienation – considering that, in Brazil, the number of divorces increases every year and, in most cases, separation takes place in a conflictual manner, causing a grudge between parties. In this scenario, when dissolution of marriage involves children, one of the parents, or even other relatives, such as grandparents, start a process of parental alienation. The main victim is the child or adolescent, who will suffer from psychological disorders resulted from alienation for the rest of his/her life. Therefore, mediation is a method used to facilitate dialogue and an agreement between litigants, which has great potential to harmonize family life. |

Therefore, mediation is a method used to facilitate dialogue and an agreement between litigants, which has great potential to harmonize family life.A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo principal constatar se a mediação, enquanto um método alternativo de solução de conflitos, é uma solução eficiente para elucidar os conflitos familiares e evitar a ocorrência da alienação parental – tendo em vista que no Brasil o número de divórcios aumenta demasiadamente a cada ano e que, em grande parte dos casos, a separação se dá de forma conflituosa, provocando um rancor entre as partes. Neste cenário, quando a dissolução do matrimônio envolve os filhos, um dos genitores, ou até mesmo outros parentes, como os avós, para se vingar do ex-cônjuge, inicia a alienação parental, que tem como maior vítima a criança ou o adolescente que sofrerá com transtornos psicológicos decorrente da alienação para o resto de sua vida.
