Resumo: The COVID-19 pandemic has once again put the principles of bioethics on the scene. A whirlwind of ideas plunges us into endless conflict: individual good vs community good, life value vs freedom value, respect for autonomy vs justice in the distribution of scarce resources, common good vs non-maleficence in vaccine research, etc. , etc etc. At the same time, it has dusted off crimes classified in the penal code under the heading of “crimes against public health” and that seemed to have been limited in time to “poisoning or adulterating drinking water or food or medicine”, as its title continues in our national legislation. From the vast problems aroused by the pandemic, we propose to reflect on the aforementioned principle of beneficence that forces health workers to do good (always ... in any condition ...?).
