Posse e porte de arma de fogo: a sociedade está preparada?

This article aimed to analyze whether society is prepared to have permission to own and carry a firearm. To carry out this work, we opted for the bibliographic research methodology-using search in databases in Google Academic and Scielo. The following keywords were used: “Criminality”, “Duty of the State” and “Population”. It is well known that it is the responsibility of the State to guarantee the citizen's security, also spreading to his goods. It remains to be seen whether the State impediment on the possession and carrying of weapons is convenient for the population, since the Disarmament Law ended up, in a way, restricting only the good population. The focus of this work is the demonstration and analysis, through research and data, on the weight of this Law with the citizens, as it is a security measure. However, the vast majority of the population feels insecure and vulnerable to crime. The State has complete lack of control over the criminal caste. Therefore, it can be seen that there is a population of good at a disadvantage, in a state of alert, depending only on public responsibility to ensure peace. Safety and protection itself, as well as that of family members and their property, are guaranteed by the Brazilian Federal Constitution of 1988. However, in practice, the script is shown to be different for this situation.
