Continuous Scientific Initiation in Undergraduate Medicine: UNIEURO’s Innovative Experience

Resumo: This article describes the structure of the Scientific Initiation (SI) model being implemented in the undergraduate medical program at the UNIEURO University Center in Brasília, DF, Brazil. The basic premise of this model is based on the idea originally developed by Alexander von Humboldt, who was responsible for creating an emblematic model of a research-oriented university, emphasizing aspects such as interdisciplinarity, education through research, and the inseparability of teaching and research. Humboldt viewed knowledge as an interconnected continuum, where different fields of study overlap and interact. In the UNIEURO SI model, students are immersed over eight semesters in continuous grounding in the scientific method with the aim of developing skills such as critical thinking, solving complex problems, teamwork, and scientific communication. The methodology employed is described in detail, enabling the replication of the program by other higher education institutions.

A premissa básica deste modelo baseia-se na ideia originalmente desenvolvida por Alexander von Humboldt, responsável pela criação de um modelo emblemático de universidade voltada para a pesquisa, ressaltando aspectos como a interdisciplinaridade, a formação pela pesquisa e a indissociabilidade do ensino e da pesquisa. Humboldt via o conhecimento como um continuum interconectado, onde diferentes campos de estudo se sobrepõem e interagem. No modelo de IC do UNIEURO os alunos são imersos ao longo de oito semestres, em uma fundamentação contínua no método científico com o objetivo de desenvolver habilidades como pensamento crítico, resolução de problemas complexos, trabalho em equipe e comunicação científica.
