Resumo: The damselfish, Stegastes fuscus (Osteichthyes, Pomacentridae) occurs frequently in tide pools of Rio Grande do Norte. The aim of this study was to characterize the population structure in length and weight and the reproductive period of S.fuscus in the coastal rocky reefs of Búzios, RN, Brazil. A total of 548 fishes were captured, weighed, measured, and the weight of the gonads and liver were registered. To evaluate the reproductive cycle of the study species, the gonadosomatic index (GSI) was related to the condition factor (CF), hepatosomatic index (HSI) and rain fall (mm). S. fuscus showed a positive allometric growth. Better body conditions were registered prior to spawning, especially in the initial and intermediate stages of gonadal maturation. Reproduction was associated to the dry period of the region, during which low rain fall was registered. Keywords: Damsel fish; gonadosomatic index; rain fall; reproduction.

Universidade Federal do AmapáCNPqCAPESGurgel, Liliane de LimaCanan, BhaskaraNascimento, Wallace SilvaChellappa, Sathyabama2013-07-08info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionArtigo Avaliado pelos Paresapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/62410.18561/2179-5746/biotaamazonia.v3n1p85-93Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota); v. 3, n. 1 (2013); 85-932179-5746reponame:Biota Amazôniainstname:Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)instacron:UNIFAPporhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/view/624/v3n1p85-93.pdfhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/article/downloadSuppFile/624/64Direitos autorais 2013 Biota Amazônia (Biote Amazonie, Biota Amazonia, Amazonian Biota)http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2016-04-15T14:43:56Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/624Revistahttp://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biotaONGhttps://periodicos.unifap.br/index.php/biota/oai||juliosa@unifap.br2179-57462179-5746opendoar:2016-04-15T14:43:56Biota Amazônia - Universidade Federal do Amapá (UNIFAP)false
