Resumo: | The lane snapper, Lutjanus synagris is a marine fish of commercial importance which contributes to the artisanal fishery production of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The present study investigated the occurrence of ectoparasitic crustacens on L. synagris from the coastal waters of Rio Grande do Norte. During the period of March, 2008 to February, 2009 a total of 100 individuals of the marine fish L. synagris were captured from the coastal waters of Rio Grande do Norte. The host fish presented a total length ranging from 6.35 to 26.46 cm (18,8±32,5 cm) and weight ranging from 310.34 to 341.02 g (127,0±182 g). The ectoparasites encountered were collected, observed, identified and counted. Out of the fish specimens examined, 10 were parasitized by ectoparasitic crustaceans, two species of copepods and one isopod species. Lernanthropus sp. (Copepoda: Lernanthropidae) was found in the gills and presented a mean intensity (MI) of 2.75; prevalence (P) of 4% and average abundance (AM) of 0.11. Lernaelophus striatus (Copepoda Pennellidae) was found in the oral cavity and presented a MI of 1.5; P of 2% and AM of 0.03. Rocinela signata (Isopoda: Aegidae), was found only in males both in the gills and in the oral cavity and presented a MI of 1.25; P of 4% and AM of 0.05.Keywords: Copepods; isopod; marine fish; Lutjanus synagris; parasitic indices. |

O presente estudo investigou a ocorrência de crustáceos ectoparasitos no peixe marinho L. synagris no litoral do Rio Grande do Norte.
