Kaposi's Sarcoma in an HIV and Covid-19 positive patient

Resumo: Objective of this work is to report and discuss the case of a 61-year-old female patient, black, admitted to the University Hospital Maria Aparecida Pedrossian, diagnosed with Covid-19 and HIV, whose dental care together with the multidisciplinary team assistant, made the diagnosis of Kaposi's sarcoma, a cancer highly associated with immunocompromised patients with first appearance, most of the time, in the oral cavity, with systemic repercussions that can affect the evolution and clinical management of the case. Anatomopathological and immunohistochemical results confirmed the HIV diagnosis. During hospitalization patient presented clinical worsening and significant spread of the lesions, with the appearance of violaceous stains throughout the entire length of the head, neck, lower limbs, and gastrointestinal tract. There was no satisfactory therapeutic response, for this reason, palliative care was instituted, and cancer treatment was not performed.

There was no satisfactory therapeutic response, for this reason, palliative care was instituted, and cancer treatment was not performed.Objetivo de este trabajo es informar Y discutir el caso de una paciente de 61 años, de raza negra, ingresada en el Hospital Universitario María Aparecida Pedrossian, diagnosticada de Covid-19 Y VIH, cuya atención odontológica junto con el asistente del equipo multidisciplinario, realizó el diagnóstico de sarcoma de Kaposi, un cáncer altamente asociado a pacientes inmunodeprimidos con primera aparición, la mayoría de las veces, en la cavidad bucal, con repercusiones sistémicas que pueden afectar la evolución Y el manejo clínico del caso. Los resultados anatomopatológicos e inmunohistoquímicos confirmaron el diagnóstico de VIH. Durante la hospitalizaciónla paciente presentó empeoramiento clínico Y diseminación significativa de las lesiones, con aparición de manchas violáceas a lo largo de toda la longitud de la cabeza, cuello, miembros inferiores Y tracto gastrointestinal. No hubo respuesta terapéutica satisfactoria, por lo que se instauraron cuidados paliativos Y no se realizó tratamiento oncológico.O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar e discutir o caso de uma paciente de 61 anos de idade, melanoderma, sexo feminino, internada no Hospital Universitário Maria Aparecida Pedrossian, com diagnóstico de Covid-19 e HIV, cuja assistência odontológica juntamente com a equipe multidisciplinar, realizou o diagnóstico de sarcoma de Kaposi, um câncer altamente associado a pacientes imunodeprimidos com primeiro aparecimento, na maioria das vezes, em cavidade oral, com repercussões sistêmicas que podem afetar a evolução e a conduta clínica do caso. Resultados anatomopatológico e de imuno-histoquímica confirmaram o diagnóstico do HIV. No transcorrer da internação, paciente apresentou piora clínica e disseminação importante das lesões, com surgimento de manchas violáceas por toda extensão de cabeça, pescoço, membros inferiores e trato gastrointestinal.
